Who is Sato-Chan?

So why did the Sato company pick an elephant as their mascot??

Because the elephant is a symbol of longevity and health. Elephants typically live to be between 70  and 80 years old, and some live to 100.  They are a protected species in the wild and beloved by children and adults alike .

In the beginning….

A picture of an elephant appeared in a Sato ad in the newspaper in June 1955. It didn’t really look like me. It looked more like a traditional elephant with a long nose.
However, I, Sat-Chan, was officially born in April 10, 1959. (I didn’t have a name back then, It wasn’t until October 9th, 1959 when I was officially named Sato-Chan.)
Then things started to pick up! In February 1960, they created a song about me!
For the early part of my life I stood outside pharmacies to greeting customers or entertained kids by playing with them on my kiddie ride.
As my popularity grew, I started to get cool consumes to wear.  Here is a picture of me wearing my new Mounties outfit.
In 1970, I started visiting Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore. I had such a great reception there I felt very welcomed.

In 1982, I got a cute sister named Satoko-Chan. Soon after my sister joined me in front of stores.

I came to Canada a few years ago and have since made a lot of great friends. Here I am with Satoko-Chan handing out with the Behan Family at the Vancouver Sun Run.
